This arrangement transitions a 2023 financing framework into an operational import scheme for Egypt. The signing took place at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on August 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also leads GASC, present at the event. Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, was also in attendance. The announcement did not specify details on wheat volumes, shipment timings, source countries, or the pricing mechanism for purchases under this deal.
The financial arrangement traces back to August 2023, when ADEX and Egyptian authorities established a revolving credit line for wheat imports. The program was initially set at US$100 million, with renewal options each year over five years, potentially totaling US$500 million. Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance collaborated with GASC in setting up this arrangement. The 2026 agreement now offers the operational structure for GASC’s wheat acquisitions from Al Dahra within this financial framework.
2023 Financing Plan Becomes Active
ADEX, the export-finance branch of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, provides funding for purchases from Emirati exporters, including wheat and other critical commodities supplied via Al Dahra. In 2023, the office announced that its Egypt facility would support these imports. This five-year financing scheme structures transactions with GASC, and the current agreement maintains that setup while formalizing operational terms for Al Dahra’s imported wheat deliveries.
Since entering Egypt’s market in 2007, Al Dahra has established agricultural operations in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in Egypt and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the government during the previous three years. Recently, Al Dahra highlighted that its comprehensive agricultural platform now serves more than 40 markets across the globe.
Al Dahra’s Egyptian Presence Dates Back to 2007
While the August 2026 agreement pertains to imported wheat, Al Dahra also produces various agricultural commodities locally. In 2023, the firm identified itself as Egypt’s leading private-sector producer of wheat and corn, with around 85% of its Egyptian farm output distributed within the national market. The new accord focuses on imported wheat supplied to GASC through the ADEX-funded program, rather than the US$500 million financing package announced separately.
This five-year agreement formalizes the financing framework introduced three years earlier, avoiding the creation of a second US$500 million facility. Neither Al Dahra nor GASC has disclosed the total wheat tonnage covered, nor have they provided an annual shipment plan, source breakdowns, or pricing details.
